“SPUD”
Objective
: This game involves Catching, Throwing , Hopping and Dodging
Rules
- Line up all the
participants and whisper a number in their ear. Try and distribute the
numbers randomly
- Have the
participants form a circle around the leader – instructor. I
will explain what the number range is.
- The object of
the game is to toss the ball into the air and call a number. If the number
is your you run, catch the ball and call out SPUD
- Once spud is
called everyone freezes
- The person
holding the ball can take three steps towards one of the other players.
Then the throw the ball at the person, below the waist. If they hit the
person with the ball the hit person gets a letter. If the thrower misses
they get the letter
- The frozen
person must keep their feet flat on the floor
- The first person to spell out S-P-U-D is out
INPUT/TEACHING
“Chuck
the Chicken”
Objective:
The goal is to earn your team points by running around your
group once you have chucked or thrown your chicken for the other team to
retrieve
Rules
- Split your
players into two teams
- Team A starts
off with possession of the rubber chicken
- They form a
line and pass the chicken from the back of their line to the front in the
following matter – Through the legs of the second last person in line,
then over the head of the next person, then through the legs of the next
person, and so on. Over – Under relay
- Team B starts
of by scrunching themselves into the smallest human knot possible , all
accept for one player on the team
- This player
needs to run around and around the outside of the clump of the team b
players
- For each full
circuit of the clump, the team earns one point
- When the
chicken reaches the front of the line of team A, the person at the front
of the line yells “CHUCK THE CHICKEN” as loud as they can and throws the
chicken as far away as possible
- Team A then
immediately forms into a clump and one person starts to run laps around
the clump , earning team A points
- When team B
hears team A yell CHUCK THE CHICKEN , they immediately break off from
their point – gathering and run to where ever the chicken has landed.
- They form a
line like team A did at the beginning of the game and pass the chicken up
the line – under one persons legs, over the next persons head, under legs,
etc…When the chicken reaches the front of the line , the leader yells ``CHUCK THE CHICKEN``, throws the chicken away,
and team B goes back to the clump formation to keep adding points to their
score
- The craziness continues for as many rounds as you
like – or until everyone is so exhausted that you have to stop.
- Just ensure that each team gets an equal number
of opportunities to gain points
- At the end of the game, which ever team has more points wins

Grade 4 - 6
Today students continued engaging in cooperative games. Students completed a group warm up and stretch before playing a game of Bench Ball. The description of the game and pictures follow:
Description:
•
Students are split into 2 even teams.
•
Split the
playing area into two even sides (the centre line in the gym works perfectly).
•
Send one player
from team X across the center line to stand up on the bench on team O’s side.
•
Send one player
from team O across the center line to stand up on the
bench on team X’s side.
•
The object of
the game is to get everyone from your team onto the bench on the other side of
the center line.
•
The only way you
are allowed to cross the center line and climb onto the bench on the other side
is to have someone from your team, who is already on
the other bench, catch the ball that you throw. They can not pick the
ball up from the ground, but must catch it in the air.
•
If they catch
your ball, then you cross over and join them on the bench.
•
Except for the two people who started on the bench, if anyone ever falls
off the bench, they must return to their own side and have someone catch their
ball again before they can rejoin their teammates on the bench.
•
You are allowed
to block the catchers on the bench by throwing balls
at incoming balls, or by simply holding balls in you hands and whacking
incoming balls away. You may also assign a guard to knock balls out of the air.
•
You are not
allowed body contact, and are not allowed to jump on, or away from, a bench to
catch a ball.
•
The first team
to successfully get all of their members standing on
the bench is the winner.
Students continued to learn proper forearm/bumping techniques.Students were also introduced ti small mini games that allow to more effective underhand serve development.
Grade 8
Students continued to learn to dribble the ball with their dominant and non-dominant hand while keeping their head up through various ball handling/control activities.Students were introduced to ball protection activities where they needed to adjust positioning in order to be effective.
