Hello everyone and welcome back! I hope everyone had a great holiday and a great start to the new year.
JK/SK
Both yesterday and today, we have been playing icebreaker games to get to know each other, reviewed class rules and participated in fun activities such as Sharks, Mermaids, and Oceans and a modified version of Red Light Green Light.
Grades 3-6
Students were introduced to a Fact vs Fib game to get to know a little more about Mr. Slyk. I presented students with 12 statements about myself, 8 of which were true and 4 that were false. Students were responsible for trying to guess which 4 were false, they couldn't believe that Mr. Slyk was born with 1 leg longer than the other...it's TRUE! We had a lot of fun throughout this activity. They have also been engaged in small group work where they were responsible for creating new class rules which will be further discussed tomorrow.
Grades 1 & 2
During our Fact vs Fib icebreaker game students were introduced to 12 written statements( 8 of which were true, 4 of which were false) about Mr Slyk. The goal was to work as a class to determine which statements were true and which were false. Many students couldn't believe that Mr. Slyk has been on T.V two times and that he has been on the second largest roller coaster in the world. We had a great time during this activity! The grade 1's also went over class rules and played an exciting game of electric fence with some of the students from Oakwood Academy. With the grade 2's we will continue going over class rules tomorrow.
Grades 7/8
Yesterday students were introduced to their performance task and chose their groups for the assessment. Today we went over the rubric in detail and discussed what steps need to be taken in order to be successful in creating their game. They had class time today to work with their group on their task and we will continue to practice tomorrow. Presentations for the Performance Task will begin on Monday January 11.
Grade 7 and 8's, remember to ask for any materials that you require for your game by Friday.
ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR DAY!
