January 12

JK/SK

Over the last couple of days students have been introduced to some new and exciting parachute games. All JK and SK classes have been engaged in warm up activities involving the parachute as well as some new arm stretches. Students have learned activities such as ‘Popcorn’, ‘Colour Switch’ and ‘Cat and Mouse’ . These games allowed students to practice their tactile skills while recognizing colours and making quick decisions while being aware of their surroundings. The rules of one of the games we played as well as an example are posted below.I will be posting some pictures of our experiences later in the week so please check back in.

Cat and Mouse

  • As a class we first discussed how to stay safe during our parachute games before proceeding
  • One or more students are selected to be the mouse/mice and they go underneath the parachute and try to crawl underneath and not to get caught by the cat
  • Another student is the cat and goes on top of the parachute to try and catch the mouse
  • All other students shake the parachute to make it more difficult

Grades 3-6

Today, grade 3 - 6 students participated in a collaborative activity named ‘Island Travel’. In the activity students were required to communicate with their group/team mates in order to safely travel from one island(gym mat) to another without falling in the water(gym floor). There were also obstacles placed all around the gym floor to encourage team strategy as students tried to choose the shortest route to their destination(end of the gym).  The students did a fantastic job communicating with each other and showed great spirit by encouraging their team mates while they were playing. I will be posting some pictures of our experiences later in the week so please check back in.
