Students were given the opportunity to be active and creative today while playing the 'numbers game' as a warm up for our follow up team activity. Students using various locomotor movements while moving to the music. Once the music stopped, a number was called aloud. At this points students had the option to work individually or in groups to form the shape of each number with their bodies....they had a blast!
Follow up activity:
Students were later introduced to an activity of snakes. An explanation of the game as well as some pictures of the students in action follow.
Rattle Snake
Game Description: Snakes is a team-building game that had players moving around
together quickly and swiftly as snakes, trying to pick up as many objects as
they could. Small objects were spread somewhere
along the floor, then groups formed snakes (maybe 4 or 5 players per snake – each
snake has a head, body, and tail), and the last person in line (the tail)was given the collection bag. Basically, on the starting whistle, all the snakes travelled around trying to collect the objects from the floor. However, only the
HEAD (front person) of the snake was allowed to pick up the objects. Then the
object was passed down the snake from player to player all the way to the
tail, who then placed the object into the bag. If the link between players broke at any time during the game, the collection bag(tail) was 'rattled' and all the objects were emptied out of the bag, leaving the group to start all over again.
