APRIL 14

JK/SK

This morning, students entered into space(Gymnasium) and encountered a large spaceship(gym mats) that had to soon be occupied by astronauts(students) . They were then introduced to an activity of 'Star Wars' which helped them further improve their tossing and aiming abilities. LETS TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT THE STUDENTS NOTICED WHEN THEY ENTERED THE GYM...

THE STUDENTS IN ACTION...

Grade 1/2

Students taking part in a cooperative team activity of 'Sink the Ship'. Students did an awesome job trying to develop strategies to protect their ship from sinking, and at the same time, trying to knock down the other teams pins(which are the anchors that keep the ship a float). Follow this link to learn more about the game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wFE8kR9qCQ

Lets take another look at the 1's and 2's in action...

GRADE 3-6

The grade 5/6 students in the midst of a great game of European Handball. Throughout this unit, students have been developing their movement skills(catching & shooting) and have been focusing on IB related concepts such as adaptation and communication. They have been learning about how to adapt to changes in their surroundings, have been practicing how to move into open space to receive a pass, how to recognize an appropriate time to pass and shoot, as well as how to consistently be aware of teammates and opponents.

JK & SK

Students have been doing great and have really began to develop their aiming skills. Take a look at the students practice their bowling skills in modified mini games/stations.

April 11

Grade 1's & 2's

Students were given the opportunity to be active and creative today while playing the 'numbers game' as a warm up for our follow up team activity. Students using various locomotor movements while moving to the music. Once the music stopped, a number was called aloud. At this points students had the option to work individually or in groups to form the shape of each number with their bodies....they had a blast!

Follow up activity:
Students were later introduced to an activity of snakes. An explanation of the game as well as some pictures of the students in action follow.

 Rattle Snake
Game Description: Snakes is a team-building game that had players moving around together quickly and swiftly as snakes, trying to pick up as many objects as they could.  Small objects were spread somewhere along the floor, then groups formed snakes (maybe 4 or 5 players per snake – each snake has a head, body, and tail), and the last person in line (the tail)was given the collection bag. Basically, on the starting whistle, all the snakes travelled around trying to collect the objects from the floor. However, only the HEAD (front person) of the snake was allowed to pick up the objects. Then the object was passed down the snake from player to player all the way to the tail, who then placed the object into the bag. If the link between players broke at any time during the game, the collection bag(tail) was 'rattled' and all the objects were emptied out of the bag, leaving the group to start all over again.

April 8

Grade 1's & 2's

Grade 1's and 2's playing a relay game of 'hoop rescue'. Students attempted to save other teammates in this activity by successfully placing the hoola hoop over their teammate and making it from their 'start line' to their 'safe point' as quickly as possible. Students used various strategies and communicated with teammates to make these movements as efficient as possible.

April 7

JK/SK
JK & SK's continuing to practice their throwing and aiming while using moving around to music using different locomotor movements. During our activity of " Hoopla"several hula hoops were taped to the activity area walls at various heights. When the music stopped, each student picked up a beanbag/object and throw it underhand at three different hoops on the wall. Students were reminded to make sure that no one was between them and the target when throwing.

GRADE 2

SOME ACTION of our students during "One in the hoop" relay race. This was our third lesson of our team building unit. Students worked as a team to successfully transfer one teammate from one side of the gym to the other without the inside player making any contact with the hoola hoop.

April 6

JK

Our JK students during lesson 3 of our Aim & Accuracy Unit. Students were split into stations and learned the proper underhand and overhand throwing techniques. They then attempted to toss a beanbag at targets located at different distances in the gym.

GRADE 2

Today grade 2's continued their unit on 'Team Building'. They competed to try and see which group could successfully complete a relay race in the best time. Students provided guidance to one another on the most effective way to roll a hole hoop around a pylon at the end of the gym and return back to line before passing the hoop to the next person. The name of the activity was "Hoop the pylon"

Grade 3/4
